Auraria Higher Education Center to hold listening tours as part of its search for the next Auraria Campus Police Department Chief of Police
Posted March 7th, 2023
Input from community members and institutional partners a crucial role in the search effort
DENVER – March 7, 2023 – In its search for the new Auraria Campus Police Department (ACPD) Chief of Police, Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC), or “Auraria Campus,” is conducting a listening tour to gather input from institutional partners and engage the community in conversations about what leadership qualities they deem essential in Auraria’s next Chief of Police.
“It’s important to us that we hear from the Auraria Campus community about the most important qualities, characteristics, and competencies that the new police chief should embody,” said Auraria Higher Education Center CEO Colleen Walker.
The ACPD considers building relationships and trust in the campus community a tenant of its work. Operating in an urban environment brings particular challenges, yet the Auraria Campus has one of the lowest campus crime rates in Colorado. The department collaborates with the ACPD Community Advisory Board, a trusted team of Neighborhood Community Officers, and a Community Relations Team.
The listening tour process consists of an online survey of campus community members and leaders, roundtable sessions with various on-campus organizations and four facilitated town hall meetings, which are open to the public.
Community members and interested candidates are encouraged to attend the following town hall meetings:
- Wednesday, March 15 at 5 p.m. held virtually.
- Thursday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. held virtually
- Thursday, March 16 at 3:30 p.m. Tivoli Student Union, room 320
Feedback gathered during the listening tour will inform the creation of the official ACPD Chief of Police job posting and subsequent interview process. For more information about the ACPD or the listening tour, please visit https://aurariacampus.edu/services-departments/police.
