October 21, 2024, Denver, CO: At approximately 1:18 a.m., an Auraria Campus Police Officer was shot and injured during an incident on campus. The officer sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm and was treated at a nearby hospital and later released.

The incident occurred when two Auraria Campus Police officers approached the suspect, who had assaulted the officers after trespassing into a vehicle.  The suspect fled and was later located by the officers. As the officers attempted to take the suspect into custody the second time, he resisted, and a taser was deployed. The suspect fired multiple shots, hitting one of the officers in the arm. The suspect again fled on foot before being arrested by the Auraria Campus Police and Denver Police officers, who responded to assist. It is unclear at this time whether the Taser deployment(s) contacted the suspect, but as a precaution, he was transported to the hospital for evaluation of possible injuries.

The Denver Police Department is coordinating the criminal investigation.

As the investigation continued, the entrance to Auraria Campus at 9th Street and Colfax Avenue was closed temporarily but has since reopened. Those accessing campus are advised there will be additional police presence during this time.
