Keep the Mice Out: Tips to Protect Indoor Campus Spaces

As the weather turns colder, it’s common for mice to seek shelter indoors, especially when there’s food or water available. Everyone has a role to play in preventing unwanted visitors from making themselves at home.

Auraria Campus Custodial Services is responsible for pest control on campus. If you notice any pest activity or have concerns in your area, please contact us at 303-556-3260 or submit a work order online.

Do your part to maintain a clean office and workspace environment so pests don’t make your space their living space.
Here’s how you can help:

  • Store food and drinks in tightly sealed containers.
  • Bring all dirty dishes to the kitchen and clean them promptly; even food that’s been sitting out for a few hours can attract pests.
  • For food pantries in the Tivoli Student Union, ensure all food donations are stored in sealed containers and that storage areas are kept clean and organized. Dispose of expired or damaged items promptly.
  • Clean up spills immediately, even if it’s just water.
  • Wipe down your workspace daily to remove any residue that may attract pests.
  • Dispose of all trash properly; what’s waste to us is a gourmet meal to pests!
  • Clear out old food at the end of each week to keep refrigerators clean and smelling fresh.
  • Check any plants in your workspace to make sure they aren’t providing shelter for pests.
  • Report any kitchen or bathroom leaks to Auraria Campus Facilities Services immediately.

Together, we can make sure the only things escaping the cold are our good vibes, not unwanted critters!
